Wenatchee Valley wineries win big at San Francisco competition

Three local wineries came away with multiple awards from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

Martin-Scott Winery (East Wenatchee), Horan Estates Winery (Cashmere) and Saint Laurent Estate Winery (Malaga), rubbed elbows with some of the biggest names in American wine.

According to the SFCWC website, there was a “staggering number of entries,” 5,050 from 23 states, up from the 4,913 entries in 2010, making it the “Largest Competition of American Wines in the World.”

Following is the breakdown of local awards announced Jan. 7:

Saint Laurent Estate Winery, 2009 Riesling, $12, Silver
Saint Laurent Estate Winery, 2007 Syrah, $25, Gold
Saint Laurent Estate Winery, 2007 Merlot, $25, Gold
Saint Laurent Estate Winery, 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, $29, Silver
